Well, I am here in beautiful Miami Beach at the newly renovated Fountainebleau Hotel.  It brings back memories of my childhood when I came to visit Miami with my family.  Now I must admit that was over 40 years ago so things are quite different but not as different as the HR landscape.  Although I wasn’t really paying attention to HR as a teenager, I am sure that there was no such thing as a Professional Employer Organization.  What a concept and boy has it changed the way that HR is done in some businesses.  Since I have already described what PEOs are in my September 4th blog post “PEOs:  A Small Business Alternative That Empowers Profitability Over Paperwork”, I will not repeat it.  But it is helpful to know the definition of a PEO.  In the next few days, I will do my best to describe my experience here and try and give a feel for their breadth and value.  You see, PEOs offer an entire menu of services bundled in or out of the many offerings that a larger organization with an internal HR department can offer.  What is great about them is that they allow businesses to focus on what they do and know best; their businesses.

I became aware of PEOs about 9 years ago and Perspectives began providing EAP services as a part of the PEO menu.  Currently we provide EAPs to a half dozen PEOs.

And now more than ever, EAPs can provide a very valuable piece of the PEO menu primarily because of the new Mental Health Parity Act that becomes effective in January, 2010.    So stay tuned.  Tomorrow I set up our booth.
